Frank Tansey, Chief Innovations Officer

Dr. Tansey has over 35 years experience in university senior academic management. This includes directing strategic university educational technology initiatives, campus marketing and the direction of core university functions.

Dr. Tansey was the first Project Director for CaliforniaColleges.edu, an intersegmental website project involving the University of California, the California State University, California Community Colleges, the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, and the California State Department of Education. In this role he was responsible for the conceptualization, development and launch of an educational site to provide information to prospective students and their families about higher educational opportunities in California.

Prior to that, he was a member of the founding management team for the IMS Project of the National Learning Infrastructure Initiative (EDUCAUSE) that evolved into the IMS Global Learning Consortium. In this role, he was responsible for leading teams that developed eLearning specifications that underlay the explosion of online learning technologies. He was also responsible for marketing the organization to technology firms, colleges and universities and governmental organizations.

These two activities followed a lengthy career as a university academic administrator, the most recent as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sonoma State University. In his various positions he was responsible for the admission, recruiting, registrar and financial aid operations of the university. He played a critical role in developing the universities' technology initiatives in eLearning, networking, and student access as well as developing and architecting sophisticated administrative systems.

Dr. Tansey currently co-edits SmartClassroom a bi-weekly electronic publication covering college and university online learning. He also continues to write for technology publications as he has done for the last 20 years.

Dr. Tansey earned his doctorate from the University of Southern California and his bachelors and masters degrees from California State University, Northridge.
